SSCI, SCIE and ESCI: What Should Authors Check?
SSCI, SCIE and ESCI refer to different Web of Science Core Collection indexes. Authors should verify the exact collection and their institution’s criteria instead of treating the names as interchangeable.
What does SSCI stand for?
SSCI stands for Social Sciences Citation Index. Use the official journal record to determine whether a particular journal has the collection coverage required for your purpose.
What do SCIE and ESCI stand for?
SCIE is Science Citation Index Expanded and ESCI is Emerging Sources Citation Index. The collection name is separate from a claim about acceptance probability, publication speed or eligibility under a university policy.
Does a journal metric replace coverage verification?
No. Journal metrics and collection coverage answer different questions. Check metrics in the relevant official source and coverage in the journal record; do not infer one from the other.
